R. Gaylord Boyd of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, graduated from Southern University A & M College in 1975. While fulfilling his Student Teaching duties, he was selected by the program director of WXOK-AM radio to serve as a weekend on-air announcer. This marked the beginning of a 21-year career in radio broadcasting, and he worked in various markets, including Jacksonville, Florida, and New Orleans, Lafayette, and Alexandria in Louisiana.
After retiring from radio, Gaylord’s career shifted to law enforcement, another journey that lasted 25 years. His many years of writing detailed reports eventually led to a love of writing.
His love of cooking came from family. At each family gathering he was motivated to observe how the various members prepared their favorite foods. Fast forward to today, and Everything Cooking and Recipes landed in Chef John Folse’s famous cookbook, Something Old & Something New, Louisiana Cooking With A Change Of Heart. The Daily Advertiser rated him “Best Cooks Of Acadiana” and he was honored on the TV Food Network Competition, “Favorite Chef,” courtesy of Chef Carla Hall. Now Gaylord has achieved a remarkable milestone with the completion of his debut cookbook, proudly showcasing the richness of the Creole heritage through timeless traditions and authentic cuisine.
