Dr. Michael D. Fluitt was born in Jena, Louisiana on July 11, 1945. He was brought up in a Christian home and taught the Word by his mother, Minnie, and Grandmother, Leonie. He was a member of a small Baptist church in Nebo, Louisiana, where, on February 18, 1951, he was saved and filled with the Holy Spirit. In 1959, the Holy Spirit called him into the ministry at the age of fourteen. He began to minister in surrounding towns, preaching in many churches and youth revivals.
In 1959, God also placed on him a burden for the continent of Africa, and he began to pray for the African people. He continued to minister as the doors were opened to him, but his burning desire was to be a missionary to Africa. Over the next forty years, he met many ministers from Africa who were a result of his intercession for that continent.
In 1961, after proving his faithfulness to the call to the ministry of the Lord, he was licensed as a Minister in the United Baptist Church. He continued to minister and help in every way possible in the church. He was very active in the Royal Ambassadors.
Upon his graduation from Jena High School in 1964, He enrolled in Louisiana College, where he majored in Biblical Studies. He left there after one year to pursue electronics and moved to New Orleans. In 1965, he earned his Associates Degree in Electronics and successfully completed and passed the First Class Federal Communications Commission (FCC) License test and received his License.
From there, he moved to Wichita Falls, Texas, and worked as an engineer in both standard broadcast and telecommunications. It was there that he met his future wife, Janice Kay Smith. They were married in January 1967 and moved to the Lake Charles/ Sulphur, Louisiana area where he, again, worked in standard broadcast as chief engineer and announcer for several radio stations.
In 1979, while working as the manager of a two way/microwave shop, he started attending a Full Gospel Church, and he and his wife both became very active in the ministry. He attended Word of Life Bible College, where he obtained his Bachelors Degree in Biblical Studies, with a Masters to follow in 1987. He worked as Associate Pastor and Youth Pastor from 1980 until 1987. During that time, he also was a Louisiana State Level Commander in the Royal Rangers under the Assemblies of God.
In 1988, he moved into his own pastorate, and he and his wife served in a small country church in Starks, Louisiana until 1989, when he moved to Alexandria, Louisiana. There, he was a microwave engineer, and in 1992, went to work for Century Telephone Company, from which he retired as an engineer in 2006. It was during this time that, after more than forty years, God finally opened the door for him to realize his childhood dream of being a missionary to Africa.
In May 2001, he and his wife, Janice, were invited to go on a mission trip to South Africa with a young evangelist from South Africa, Dr. David McDonald. This opened the door for many years of breathtaking experiences and awesome miracles that some ministers only dream of seeing. They returned to South Africa in 2002 to begin to establish churches in a place where no one was ministering: Kruger National Park. They continue to witness the awesomeness of God in miracles, signs, and wonders.
They have established twelve churches in the park and now minister with a young minister, pastor, evangelist, and his minister wife, Pastors Simon and Elizabeth Shirinda, in The Born Again Christian Church, Maphophe, Limpopo Province, Republic of South Africa. They are responsible for more than eighty other churches in the South Africa National Parks System, plus churches in Nigeria and Uganda.
In 2008, he finally obtained his Doctorate in Biblical Studies from Glendale University. Only God knows what is in the future, but you can rest assured it will be filled with the glory of God.
To date, Dr. Michael and Rev. Janice Fluitt have three children, Michael, Jr., Michelle, and Kimberly, thirteen grandchildren, and twenty-one great-grandchildren. How many more only God knows, but each is a God-sent blessing to them. All of their children help them in their ministry in one way or another.
He says, “To those of you who believe God has called you to the ministry or some special calling, never give up on what you believe God has called you to do. Remember, it is in His timing, not yours. It took forty years for me to realize my childhood dream. I had to go through the same thing Paul (Saul) went through after his conversion. He was sent to the backside of the desert for three and a half years to be taught by the Holy Spirit the principles of God. I, too, had to be brought to the place where I could believe God and trust His Word to me. I was also taught to do battle in preparation for the ministry of deliverance that He would call us into. It was this portion of the ministry that would be used more than we would ever know.
“Allow God to mold and train you in what He wants, and stop looking at people. After all, it is not people that you must please and answer to, but God, so please Him.”
